Astronomy Science ~ Does the universe have a definite size or infinite? Due to the size of the universe can be seen increasingly widespread, is the farthest object that could be seen to be much older than that estimated that about 14 billion years.

Known, photons in the cosmic microwave background has taken 45 billion years to arrive at Earth. That means, the universe that is invisible to the eye at least have a size of 90 billion light years.

However, it turns out the universe is much wider. This can be known thanks to the statistical analysis made by Mihran Vardanyan and his colleagues, researchers from the University of Oxford.

According to Vardanyan, as quoted by the Daily Galaxy, the key of knowing the actual size of the universe is to measure the curve.

Previously, astronomers have several methods to measure the curvature. One of them, according to Technology Review of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is using an object that is already known to remotely measure and compare with how great he looks.

If the object appears larger than it should be, a closed universe. If the size looks the same as it should be, the universe is flat. However, if smaller, it means that the universe is open (infinite).

The problem is, when scientists observed a variety of data from various models, they get different answers to find a definitive answer about the curvature and size of the universe. So, which one is the most accurate among them?

Breakthrough taken Vardanyan and his team are called by the name of Bayesian models averaging. This technique is more intelligent than the arch using a commonly used measurement scientists to explain their data.

Modeling made according to Vardanyan, the curvature of the universe is very close to 0. In other words, most likely, the size of the universe is flat.

A flat-shaped universe could also be unlimited. And calculations made by Vardanyan also consistent with this. From the calculations, the universe has a size of at least 250-fold greater than the volume size Huber 13.8 billion light years.
