Astronomy Science ~ Water was not only owned by earth. This components spread across the universe in different forms, either liquid, solid, or gas. Search of water has always been an interesting thing, because the water is always identified with life. Far away in one corner of the universe, astronomers have discovered the most distant water ever found. The water was at a distance more than 11 billion light-years from Earth. Previously, the most distant water have been found to be in galaxies within 7 billion light years from Earth.

A sign of the presence of water have been found using a giant radio telescope in Effelsberg, Germany, and the Very Large Array of the National Science Foundation in New Mexico.

Aqueous galaxy, dubbed MG J0414 + 0534, a harbors quasar - a supermassive black hole that emits a very bright light - at its core. In the region near the core, the water molecules act as maser (Microwave Amplification by Stimulation Emission of Radiation) equally powerful lasers, to amplify radio waves at a specific frequency. This discovery indicates that such giant water masers were more common in the early Universe than they are today. The observations made now managed to see the condition of MG J0414 + 0534 when the universe was 1/6 of its present age.

At the great galaxy's distance, even the strengthening of the strongest radio waves done by maser is not strong enough to detect with radio telescopes. However, scientists actually got help from nature in the form of another galaxy, nearly 8 billion light-years away and are in the line of sight from MG J0414 + 0534 to Earth. The galaxy acting as a gravitational lens create a galaxy far brighter and radiant water molecules visible to the radio telescopes.

Signal the presence of water at very long distances can be known with the help of the gravitational lens. The cosmic telescope reduced the time required to detect water within a factor of about 1,000.

Water signal is first detected by the Effelsberg telescope and then used the VLA to sharpen the ability of imaging can confirm the origin of galaxies. The gravitational lens produces four images of MG J0414 + 0534 as seen from Earth. With VLA, the scientists found the specific frequency attributable to the presence of water in 2 bright image generated. Two other images too weak to be detected the water signal. Frequency emitted water molecule is the Doppler shift due to the expansion of the universe from GHX 2.2 - 6.1 GHz.
