Astronomy Science ~ A recent searches to find potential radio signals that indicate the presence of other intelligent life has done Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) in an effort to study 86 candidates solar system.

Of course, no radio signal is found, but the occupation will continue, this time using the Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia to seek wide-band signal.

"86 stars have been selected because they host planets that discovered in 2011 with the possibility of a friendly nature to the development of life," said Gautam Abhimat, from the University of California, Berkeley.

Illustration of the Kepler-10 solar system are inhabited three known planets. The solar system is also included in the search for radio signals belonging intelligent civilizations conducted by SETI
In 2011, Kepler have revealed 1,235 planet candidates (December 31, 2014, the number was made up of 4,183 planetary candidates, with 996 of them confirmed as a planet). Gautam worked with Andrew Siemion and other scientists from Berkeley SETI Research Center to choose 86 candidate planets have surface temperatures between minus 58-212 degrees Fahrenheit, the radius is smaller than three times the size of Earth and its orbital period more than 50 days. Such conditions put a planet in the habitable zones around their stars, a region where liquid water could exist on the surface and where life might thrive best on the planet.

Green Bank telescope (the largest radio telescope in the world) is targeting its parent star by using a wideband signal. Scientists have conducted a previous search using narrow band with no results. The width is only 5 Hertz (Hz) on the radio spectrum, narrow-band signal is only known from artificial sources on Earth, said Gautam. Narrow-band range is commonly used in the SETI search.

By switching to broadband, Gautam hoping to find something. Broadband signal covers 2.5 Megahertz (MHz), which means half a billion times wider than previous search. Increase the area of radio spectrum observed means improved hearing scientists to look for a signal that more widespread than previously observed.

The interstellar medium (the gas and dust between the stars) can spread the signal out when crosses the material, causing a delay that can give a rough estimate of the distance to the source is detected and allow SETI astronomers to track potential communication back to their origin.

"An advanced alien civilization can even use the pulsarn, which can be more easily and effectively detected in the search for broadband."
