Astronomy Science ~ Researchers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) have found that our solar system was not as unique as we think. They have found evidence that our basic materials planet may also be formed on the exoplanet orbiting a distant star. CFA researchers presented their results at the 225th meeting of meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Seattle, Washington.

Courtney Dressing says that the key to this discovery was made by the HARPS instrument-North instrument mounted on a 3.6-meter telescope Nazionale Galileo in the Canary Islands. (HARPS stands for High-Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher.) This instrument is designed to measure accurately the small mass of Earth-sized world. The measurement is very important to determine the density and composition of the planet.

This team focuses on a planet that has a great deal less than twice the diameter of Earth and aims to study some of the planet really good. For example, the team is targeting Kepler-93B, a planet that has a diameter 1.5 times the diameter of Earth, orbiting around its star in 4.7 days. Mass and composition of the planet is uncertain. But HARPS-North estimates that the planet has a mass about 4.02 times that of Earth, which means that the planet has a rocky composition.

The researchers then compared this planet with ten exoplanets known diameter of less than 2.7 times the diameter of Earth and its mass has been measured accurately. They found that the five planets with a diameter smaller than 1.6 times that of Earth shows the similarities between the mass and size. Moreover, Venus and Earth also have similarities in terms of size and composition, it shows that all the world has the composition of rocks and iron the same.

While exoplanet larger and more massive density they proved to be significantly lower, it means that their contents including exoplanets in most of the water or other volatile materials such as hydrogen and / or helium. Exoplanet like this also show a more diverse composition than the composition matching / similar to a small group such as the terrestrial world.

The team also provided the following recipe to make a small model of a planet like Earth:

Material :
  • 1 cups of Magnesium
  • 1 Cups of Silicon
  • 2 cups of Iron
  • 2 cups of Oxygen
  • 1/2 Tea Spoon of Aluminium
  • 1/2 Tea Spoon of Nickel
  • 1/2 Tea Spoon of Calcium
  • 1/4 Tea Spoon of Sulfur
  • a pinch of Water
How to make :
Stir in a large bowl, shape into round balls with your hands and place them neatly in the habitable zone around a young star. Heat until the mixture becomes hot and emit white light. Bake for a few million years. Refrigerate until the color changes from white to yellow to red and golden brown crust forms. It should not emit light again. Season with a dash of water and organic compounds. Water and organic compounds will shrink slightly, escape into vapor and clouds, and forming the oceans.

Then wait for a few million years to see what happens. "If you're lucky", a little thin garnish life could appear on the surface of your new world. :-D
