Astronomy Science ~ Signal Wow! is detected by the radio signaling Dr. Jerry R. Ehman on August 15, 1977, while working in a SETI project at the Big Ear radio telescope at Ohio State University. This signal could potentially come from outside the solar system. This signal lasts for 72 seconds, subsequently no longer detected. Signal Wow! soon became the center of media attention because they may contain instructions existence of intelligent extraterrestrial beings.

Amazed at how close this signal with the expected sign of the interstellar signal in the antenna used, Ehman circled the signal on the computer printout and wrote the comment "Wow!" on its side. This comment became the name of the signal.

The location signal in the constellation Sagittarius, close group of stars Chi Sagittarii.

Let's see the profile of this star.

Bayer designation Chi Sagittarii (Chi Sgr, χ Sagittarii, χ Sgr) divided by a system of three stars in the Sagittarius constellation. The brightest star in this system is called χ¹ Sagittarii and χ³ Sagittarii, while the dimmest stars χ² Sagittarii lies between them.

This star system is unique because of famous Signal WOW!, coming from these stars.

1. χ¹ Sagittarii

Chi¹ Sagittarii (Chi¹ Sgr, χ¹ Sagittarii, χ¹ Sgr) is a binary star. The main star is a dwarf star with spectral types A5. Companion star is 8 Astronomical Units from the main star. Orbital period of approximately 10.8 years. The combined apparent magnitude of this system is 5.02. The star is about 220 light years from Earth.

2. Chi² Sagittarii

Chi² Sagittarii (Chi² Sgr, χ² Sagittarii, χ² Sgr) is a star of spectral type of B7 subgiant which had a magnitude of 7.26. This star is about 1,200 light years from Earth.

3. Chi³ Sagittarii

Chi³ Sagittarii (Chi³ Sgr, χ³ Sagittarii, χ³ Sgr) is a giant star with spectral types K3 which has a magnitude of 5.45. The star is 506 light years from Earth.

The Closest Star By the Origin Signal WOW!

Tau Sagittarii is the stars visible in the night sky that is closest to the origin of the signal !, Wow Signal was the only one that received radio signals that might be a clue existence of intelligent extraterrestrial beings.

Sagittarii Tau (Tau Sgr, Sagittarii τ, τ Sgr) is a star located in the constellation Sagittarius. With a visual magnitude of 3.3, this star is one member of the brightest in the constellation Sagittarius. The star distance from the Earth is approximately 122 light-years (37 parsecs), based on parallax measurements.

Tau Sagittarii is a giant star with a mass of 1.5-2 solar masses. Sheath star is a little cooler than the Sun, with an effective temperature of 4860 K, giving it a bright orange color. While the star radius is 16 times greater than the radius of the sun. Tau allegedly Sagittarii binary star companion star but until now has not been found.

Could it be one of the stars in the constellation Sagittarius is hiding intelligent life? Let the time to answer.
