Astronomy Science ~ Mars has a tough environment and very hostile to humans explored in the future, and such other known planets, Mars has no air that can be used to breathe. But it could change someday and maybe our generation can see it because a team of students from Germany has a bold vision to make the first step to transform the Red Planet, turning it more like Earth.

Cyanobacteria plan was sent to Mars to produce oxygen from carbon dioxide which is the main component of the Martian atmosphere (nearly 96%). "Cyanobacteria can live in any condition on Earth. You can find them everywhere on our planet!" said team leader Robert P. Schröder.

This is the first step to test microorganisms on Mars. "This project will participate in the competition One Mars and if it wins, then these bacteria will be sent as cargo to Mars. The team calls their project as 'Cyano Knights'. Schröder explains:" Because of the history Cyano length and their desire to survive I named Cyano Knights and immediately send a proposal payload to Mars One. "

Cyanobacteria will distribute the oxygen that comes from their photosynthesis, reduce carbon dioxide and produce an environment suitable for living organisms. In addition, they can provide food and vitamins that are essential for health. The team is already testing the cyanobacteria with different environmental conditions in photobioreactors quarantine and monitor their activities to determine which solution best work on Mars.

The team ensures that at the end of the mission, quarantine these microorganisms will be terminated. "We will destroy microorganisms because we do not want to hurt Mars," said Schröder. So how many bacteria are needed to transform Mars as Earth? Until now it has not been known, and scientists are still searching for the best solution.

Mars One will undertake a project to send a mission to Mars unmanned landers in 2018.
