Astronomy Science ~ Evidence obtained over the years indicate that thousands of years ago, Mars had rivers, streams and even lakes. The problem is scientists are having trouble figuring out how to rivers, streams and lakes formed at remembering the Red Planet Mars including a cold planet.

In a paper of the journal Nature Geoscience, US scientists at Brown University stated that volcanic activity could explain the creation of the geological structure. Thus, they believe that those who gave birth to a large eruption of liquid water on Mars and even make it flow.

How Volcanoes Change the appearance of Mars Forever?

Together with researchers from Israel's Weizmann Institute of Science, Brown University experts explained that, as indicated by the climate models recently, young Mars is a cold place. This is because, billions of years ago, the Sun is dimmer than it is now.

Moreover, they argue that, when the Red Planet was a teenager, the atmosphere is too thin to be able to heat the surface and thereby allow liquid water formed and flowed over it.

To explain the presence of rivers, streams and ancient lakes on Mars, scientists have considered all things and could be volcanic activity that encourages an increase in temperature needed to allow the creation of liquid water.

This hypothesis is supported by data showing that water flowed on the surface of the Red Planet about 3.7 billion years ago, around the time when a large volcanic lava firing and all kinds of gas out.

Not Usual Volcanic Eruption

On Earth, volcanic eruptions triggered by the drop in temperature and the ash spewing all sorts of compounds which reflect back sunlight before it reaches the surface of our planet. On Mars, the ancient volcano appears to lead to an increase in temperature.

Researchers from Brown University found that it was due sulfur dioxide released during the event acts as a greenhouse gas and cause the planet's equatorial region warms.

On the other hand, sulfuric acid particles released by volcanoes Mars is limited by dust particles floating in the atmosphere of the planet, reducing its ability to reflect back sunlight. It also makes an increase in the surface temperature.

This event is more than enough to give a rivers, streams and lakes on the Red Planet, and keep them alive for a few hundred years at a time.

The researcher said that if primitive life forms ever existed on Mars, it is likely they certainly exist in rivers, streams and lakes ancient and one day we will find evidence of their presence on the Red Planet.
