Astronomy Science ~ A team of space scientists consisting of the United States, China and France have found through computer modeling that an asteroid will pass very close to Earth in 2029 and is likely to experience a small avalanche.

What is meant here is the asteroid Apophis (99942) that will pass very close to Earth at a distance of just 22,000 miles (35,000 kilometers) from Earth's surface or about 1/10 of the distance to the moon and about ten times farther than the International Space Station. But this approach will not hit Earth.

This approach will take place on Friday, April 13th, 2029 (unlucky day). Apophis has a size of 325 meters (1,066 feet), almost as big as a football stadium.

But the effect of what will happen when this asteroid as it passes by so close and meet the Earth's gravity? According to new research, the Earth's gravity will move the rocks in the asteroid's surface.

Simulations show that Apophis is likely to slow, gentle landslides occur, such as smaller stones move along the surface. And if that happens, it will offer scientists who observed the asteroid's some new information about the age of Apophis.

Scientists analyzing the light reflected by the asteroid to calculate how old they are. If Apophis experienced landslides, it means a thin layer on the surface will disappear, revealing what lies beneath and offer a new perspective on aging asteroid.
