Astronomy Science ~ NASA has recently released a new short film themed asteroid Bennu, a space rock near the Earth and NASA hopes to collect samples in 2018. This mission is the start of a larger mission, which NASA will attempt to capture the asteroid and bring it to orbit the moon to be further studied.

So why NASA interested in investigating a chunk of space rock? Similarly, the European Space Agency (ESA) are pursuing and landing on Comet 67P / Churyumov-Gerasimenko, the analysis of this asteroid could give scientists a view into the past - back to the early days of our solar system.

"We're going to Bennu because we want to know what the evolution of our solar system," said Edward Beshore, at the University of Arizona, explained in a statement.

Beshore is Deputy Principal Investigator for NASA asteroid sampling mission known as Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security - Regolith Explorer (abbreviated OSIRIS-REx).

Osiris-Rex spacecraft will be launched in 2016, when Bennu very close to Earth, and is likely to reach the asteroid in 2018. There, Osiris-Rex will land and survive briefly took the data and samples. This sample is expected to return to Earth by 2023.

As explained in the video, such as Bennu very similar asteroid time capsule made of dust that is slightly heated by the sun since it was formed. This dust form planets as well, but it is suspected that Bennu float calmly on the farthest edge of our solar system, has remained largely unchanged for four billion years ago.

Now, this stone finally drifted closer to Earth, NASA researchers believe now is the time to strike. "Bennu experience will tell us more about where our solar system originated and how it evolved," added Beshore. "As a detective in the series of crimes, we will study the pieces of evidence of Bennu to understand more fully the story of the solar system and ultimately uncovering the story of our origins."
