Astronomy Science ~ Europa is Jupiter's ice moon which is slightly smaller than Earth's moon. This is a unique object in the solar system because it is estimated to have oceans of water beneath its icy shell. If the oceans were shown to exist, Europe could be a promising place to find life beyond Earth.

And these 10 interesting facts about Europe that you may do not know

1. Europa is a moon orbiting the planet Jupiter. Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and is about 778 million km (484 million miles) or 5.2 AU from the sun.

2. One day in Europe (the time it takes to spin once) takes about 3.5 Earth days. Long days in Europe equal to the amount of time it takes to orbit. Jupiter makes a complete orbit around the sun (one year Jupiter) takes about 12 Earth years (4333 Earth days).

3. Like many other satellite (including moon of earth), Europa locked by the planet's gravity so that the same side always faces Jupiter.

4. The surface of Europa majority of solid water ice. Its surface is very smooth and crisscrossed with cracks.

5. Europa has a very tenuous oxygen atmosphere - too thin to be used breathing.

6. Europa does not have a ring.

7. Europa and Jupiter has been visited by eight spacecraft's closest approach. Mission Galileo is the only mission that repeated visits to Europe.

8. With the abundance of liquid water, energy and chemicals supplied by tidal heating that Jupiter do, Europa may be the best place in the solar system to find life beyond Earth.

9. If the sea in Europe proved to exist, then the water in Europe will be 2 times more than water on Earth.

10. The satellite is named for a Phoenician noblewoman named Europa, which is then married by Zeus and became the queen of Crete.
